Message by MEC Nomvula MokonyaneLet me take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to all Gauteng families, communities, and colleagues in various spheres of government, the private sector partners and social movements. I recognize all of you with a sense of pride and accomplishment, for your supportive role in the years behind us. As we have just entered into the new-year, I am hopeful that you will continue being an integral part of our achievements, assisting us, as we strive towards accelerating housing delivery in the province. Despite the many challenges, we have come to realize that through our collaborative efforts and partnerships, we are able realize optimal results, thereby, realizing our foremost vision of providing quality and sustainable housing for our people. Today, thousands of poor and formerly-marginalized people in our society are proud owners houses, located within vibrant communities, with access to social amenities, services and job opportunities. Our commitment this year is to further continue placing housing at the centre of development and ensuring that it remains a catalyst to creating jobs, ending poverty, developing skills, empowering emerging black businesses including women contractors. A people- centered development is what we need to achieve a better life for all! Our vision and streamlined policies give us the hope that we will overcome the housing challenges. Through various innovative housing programmes, we are improving our services to the poor and stepping-up our commitments to addressing the shortages of houses, while also working towards the eradication of informal settlements by 2014.
