National Imbizo comes to Merafong

National Science and Technology Minister Mosibudi Mangena, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation Gert Oosthuizen, Gauteng Housing MEC Nomvula Mokonyane and Executive Mayor of Merafong Bernard Ncube, will visit Merafong as part of the National Imbizo Focus Week.

The visit starts with an interaction with political and administration components of Merafong Municipality . The Minister and his delegation will then conduct walkabouts in the area including a special visit to houses and schools affected by sinkholes.

A sod turning ceremony for 18 000 houses that will be build in the area will also take place. The delegation will then move to Khutsong stadium to interact with the community. The 2005 National Imbizo Focus Week started on 1 October and will run until 9 October as part of government's initiatives towards integrated governance for effective service delivery.

A Municipal Imbizo is an intensive and interactive community-based meeting of the three spheres of government targeted at the 136 municipalities being supported through Project Consolidate (a hands-on local government support and engagement programme designed to enhance municipal capacity to deliver services and improve performance).
