LOCAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

The programme is responsible for promoting and supporting effective, accountable and development local government. The Programme is responsible for implementing that Municipal Supporting Programme coordination of municipal infrastructure programme and Land Management. These programmes are aimed at ensuring that the municipalities have the relevant institutional and technical capacity to deliver quality services to communities.

The sub-programme in this Programmes are:

Programme Strategic Objectives

•  To ensure accelerated municipal basic service and infrastructure delivery to meet national targets

•  To strengthen institutional capacity of municipalities to deliver municipal infrastructure projects.

•  To ensure that Municipalities are Institutionally Viable.

•  To co-ordinate and facilitate training of officials and councilors

•  To expand and grow financial management capacity, establish core basic system

•  To build a collective understanding on the state of municipal finances.

•  To support and develop capacity of municipalities to become fully functional and sustainable by 2010.

•  To support municipalities to improve customer relations by institutionalizing Batho Pele Principles at municipalities.

•  To ensure strategic management of Provincial Land for economic and social purposes.
