Youth construction session

In commemoration of the youth month, Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housing hosted a youth empowering session. The session which was hosted at SAB World of beer and was attended by various young business entrepreneurs mainly from constructions industry. The aim of the session was to educates and motivate the youth about the construction industry.

Addressing the delegates, Gauteng Department of Local Government and Housing chief financial officer Anthony Green said, "The department is determined to ensure that it improves and empower the lives of youth of Gauteng , by giving them the business opportunity such as tenders in the department". The department has already put in place a number of programmes that will benefit the youth, programmes such as internships and leadership programme, he added.

Green further said, the will be a second intake of leadership during the second Quarter of this financial year and the learners will be recruited through National Youth Development Agency (NYDA). "More than 32% tenders are awarded to youth projects as a support from government to ensure that also youth are given the opportunity to contribute on building a sustainable province.

One of the speakers who was addressing the crowd was Ndabe Mared, a CEO of Gauteng Youth Company called Makole Property Development . The company has been awarded an opportunity by department of Local Government and Housing to build a low cost housing in Badirile at Westrand.

Mareda said the youth of 1955 and 1976 have crafted a proud and renowned future for us, even though their challenges were different from ours. "we should continuous to lay our bricks on top of their solid foundation for the generation that follow", he said

The events was closed by opening of questions and answers and a networking session to assists the youth with whatever questions they may have regarding the construction industry.
